There are a lot of puzzles to work through in here (I’d recommend a group of 4), but they’re all very fun. This was my first room in over 125 games that included a scent-based puzzle! Because this is a year-round room, the decor and technology was better than what you would typically find in other Christmas-themed rooms. A few of the locks were a little finicky, and the lighting might be a tad low for players with difficulty seeing, but overall, this is a great room.

We liked this room, and came back a year later for a different room that we didn’t love (Tobacco something). But I would try another room at this place. The Tobacco one relied on too much local information - Duke sports - that we had no knowledge of.

One of my top ten rooms! Spooky setting with a couple jump scares. My favorite aspect of the room was being transported into one of the previous puzzles for the finale. We stopped here to kill some time before an event in town, but I like absolutely come back. Good mix of manual locks and high-tech puzzles!

This is such a unique room. It is pitch black the entire time but there is nothing spooky or creepy about the room. You are given a panic alarm that will instantly turn on the lights (however it will also automatically end the game). It’s a fun way to use your senses aside from sight. If your team doesn’t like being split up in the beginning of a game, I would avoid this room.

Overall I really enjoyed this room! Spooky with a couple of jump scares (that made it evident the GM was paying attention!). The was one puzzle that just didn’t seem to set the players up for success but otherwise it was a well thought out room. In general this is my favorite ER business in the RDU area.

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
